Weezer Smell Success With HurleyAccording to the LA Times, actor Jorge Garcia, who played the character Hurley in popular TV series "Lost," came onstage to perform “Perfect Situation” with Weezer while they were playing a secret show on Tuesday night at the Dunes Inn Hotel in Hollywood as part of Axe's One Night Only music series.

Before the music started, Jorge Garcia, the face of Weezer's latest album cover, took the stage just before 9 pm and introduced the band as "my new best friends." The actor has featured in the world of Weezer since the group chose his picture to grace the cover of Hurley. Videos of Garcia's rendition of "Perfect Situation," from Weezer's 2007 Make Believe album, can be viewed on YouTube.

In August, Guardian.co.uk revealed that the album is not, in fact, named after the fictional character, but named after a multinational clothing brand.

According to Brian Bell, Weezer's guitarist, surfwear company Hurley International "was funding the record at the beginning of the process". "We actually did some sort of advertisement [deal]," he said in an interview at the Mile High festival. "I don't even know how they're tied in so much, although we got some clothes [from them] and we did a photoshoot where we're wearing these clothes, and I think we're selling these clothes in malls." Hurley International, which specialises in skate and surf gear, is owned by Nike.

Weezer were the headlining act at the Hurley-sponsored US Open of Surfing, and helped judge a Hurley T-shirt design contest earlier this summer.

Hurley is the first album Weezer has recorded for indie label Epitaph.

Later, the band was joined by My Chemical Romance, who performed "My Name Is Jonas" with Weezer, one of a number of tunes played from the group's landmark 1994 debut album, known as The Blue Album.

The band embarks on their multi-city "Blinkerton" tour later this year. They play The Blue Album, and their 1996 cult classic Pinkerton in back-to-back shows beginning this November.

Rivers Cuomo earned his Axe paycheck, name-dropping the body-spray brand at least three times during the band's one-hour show, reveling in the sweet smell of success.

(Reuters) - Electronic band the xx have been named the winners of Britain's 2010 Mercury Prize for their debut album, "The xx."

The band, which consists of Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith, recorded their album in a small garage part of record label XL's studios.

Their critically acclaimed album, a sleepy but intoxicating mix of electronic beats and understated vocals, was ranked number two on NME magazine's Best of the Year list, and reached number 10 in the UK charts.

"We've had the most incredible year," xx frontman Sim said. "It feels like every day we wake up to something incredible. It hasn't sunken in to be honest."

They beat 11 other nominees including rapper Dizzee Rascal with his platinum album, "Tongue N'Cheek," veteran musician Paul Weller's 10th solo album, "Wake up the Nation," and Corrine Bailey Rae's "The Sea."

The award, which honors the best album released in the past 12 months, comes with a 20,000 pound ($30,740) prize and is likely to boost the band's record sales.
