Gorillaz Make First Record on An iPad"I've made it on an iPad," Damon Albarn has claimed. "I hope I'll be making the first record on an iPad," he continued, talking about the next Gorillaz album. "I'm going to try and put it out before Christmas."

In an interview with NME, Albarn said that he has been working on a follow-up to the cartoon group's Plastic Beach while on tour with the band. "I fell in love with my iPad as soon as I got it, so I've made a completely different kind of record," he said.

"I hope I'll be making the first record [on an iPad]." he continued. "Which is ironic, being the sort of technophobe and Luddite that I am."

Albarn has been recording tracks for the new album while touring America with the Gorillaz. "It's a studio album made in hotel rooms across America," he added.

Listeners can expect to find an American influence on the record. The album is "more American-sounding than Blur," he commented. "It sounds like an English voice that has been put through a vocoder of America."

Albarn previously described the new album as "basically a tour diary as a record." Earlier this month, he told Stuff, "I guess it's my love-letter to America. I used to be very baffled by this place, and I guess I still am in some ways; America confused me enormously. But right now with all that's going on this is a good place to be and this has been a great tour, the shows have been very special."

Albarn finished his NME interview with a tease about a new project. "I'm doing something next year about a subject that's really close to my heart. I'm not telling you what it is."

Most likely, the secret project is what's described in a recent interview with Gorillaz co-founder Jamie Hewlett in Australia's Rip It Up magazine. "Oxfam want us to go to Congo and see what's happening there and do a project based on that," the artist said. "We're going with Oxfam, so they'll look after us – hopefully we don't have our heads chopped off."

Gorillaz are currently on tour in the UK.

NEW YORK (Billboard) - After spending 16 years on Geffen Records, Weezer has gone the indie route and signed to Epitaph Records. The group's label debut, "Hurley," is due in stores September 14, preceded by first single "Memories."

Epitaph owner Brett Gurewitz announced the signing on Twitter Wednesday night, writing, "Rivers, Pat, Brian and Scott, Welcome to Epitaph homies!"

The release of "Raditude" last October fulfilled Weezer's contractual obligation to Universal Music-owned Geffen, which had handled the band since its 1994 debut "Weezer (The Blue Album)."

Los Angeles-based Epitaph's roster includes hard-rock staples Rancid and Social Distortion.
