Bono back after surgery, U2 predicts record tour PDF Print E-mail

Bono back after surgery, U2 predicts record tourItaly (Reuters) - U2 frontman Bono burst back onto rock's center stage on Friday after a two-month absence for a back injury, as the Irish band resumed what its manager predicts will be the most lucrative concert tour in history.

U2 shook a packed Olympic stadium in the northern Italian city of Turin as Bono strutted, pranced, jogged and danced with little sign of being a 50-year-old rock star just 10 weeks off spinal surgery.

"I don't really know how to hold back, is the problem. You have to let the songs sing you at a certain point," Bono told Reuters just before relaunching the second leg of U2's 360 Degree Tour, so called because fans surround a giant circular platform.

U2 and Bono, who said he had done rehabilitation work for three to four hours a day, kicked off a rousing set with "Beautiful Day" and "Magnificent." They also played two new tracks called "North Star Acoustic" and "Glastonbury."

Kings of Leon moves past "Pigeon-gate" PDF Print E-mail

Kings of Leon moves past DETROIT (Billboard) - Kings of Leon's Nathan Followill is confident that organizers of the upcoming Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco will keep stray pigeons as far away from the stage as possible. But, the drummer notes, "we're bringing a couple of muzzle loaders, just in case."

He's kidding, of course. But while answering questions about the infestation of defecating pigeons that forced the cancellation of the band's July 23 show at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Maryland Heights, Mo., Followill told Billboard.com that the incident turned into a much bigger story than the band had anticipated.

"I think us trying to be the real-life Spinal Tap just got a little closer for us," Followill said during a conference call to promote the Outside Lands performance on August 15. "I think in the end, it's going to help us more than it hurt us. It's just one of those things that happened, and looking back on it now it's a lot funnier than it was at the time. But we really felt bad for the fans -- especially those that had driven a ways and stood out in the heat all day. But sometimes, y'know, s*** happens -- in this case literally.

Kings of Leon abandon U.S. concert due to pigeon poop PDF Print E-mail

Kings of Leon abandon U.S. concert due to pigeon poop(Reuters) - American rock band Kings of Leon said they were forced to abandon a concert in St. Louis at the weekend after three songs because pigeons kept pooping on them from the rafters.

The band left the stage at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on Friday after bass player Jared Followill was hit in the face by one dropping.

"Jared was hit several times during the first two songs. On the third song, when he was hit in the cheek and some of it landed near his mouth, they couldn't deal any longer," the Nashville band's publicist, Any Mendelsohn, said in a statement.

"It's not only disgusting - it's a toxic hazard. They really tried to hang in there."

Drummer Nathan Followill apologized on Twitter to fans of the Grammy-winning band which is made up of three Followill brothers and their cousin Matthew who plays lead guitar.

"So sorry St Louis. We had to bail, pigeons s***ing in Jared's mouth and it was too unsanitary to continue," he wrote.

"Don't take it out on Jared ... Sorry for all who (traveled) many miles."

Imagine waking up on Christmas morning with a brand new Gorillaz album in your stocking... "I'm going to try and put it out before Christmas," Damon Albarn promised in November, talking about the Gorillaz album he recorded in hotel rooms on his iPad while touring America. True to his word, together with the band's co-creator and animator, Jamie Hewlett, Albarn has now disclosed that the album will be available as a "free" download for fans on Christmas Day.

"I hope I'll be making the first record on an iPad," Albarn said in November.

On the band's recent US tour, Albarn spent his spare time in his hotel room recording a new album on his iPad. The album will be released on the band's website on Christmas Day.

"At the moment we've got an advent calendar on our website and there is a daily door that opens to reveal a gift," Hewlett explained yesterday to Perth Now, during the band's tour of Western Australia.

"On Christmas Eve a video for one of the new songs from the iPad album will be released," he continued. "Then, on Christmas Day fans get the whole album downloaded to their computer for free* as a gift."
