Radiohead Double Take On New Album PDF Print E-mail

Radiohead Double Take On New AlbumExcuse me for the double take, but no sooner have we read from Radiohead's bassist Colin Greenwood that they "have just finished another group of songs, and have begun to wonder about how to release them" and from guitarist Ed O'Brien, in June, that Radiohead is currently back in the studio putting the finishing touches on the "best album we've ever made" when drummer Phil Selway adds a cautious note that they "might just throw this all out."  Thom Yorke may well look puzzled.

Perhaps too much was read into Greenwood's comments in the article he wrote for Index on Censorship explaining why the band released their last album, In Rainbows, directly to the fans? In his essay, he wrote, "Three years later, we have just finished another group of songs, and have begun to wonder about how to release them in a digital landscape that has changed again." Later in the piece he added, "We have yet to decide how to release our next record, but I hope these partial impressions will help give some idea of the conversations we’ve been having." His article was never intended to announce the pending release of a new Radiohead album.

Radiohead Plan New Album ReleaseIn an article written for Index on Censorship, Radiohead's bassist Colin Greenwood reveals that they "have just finished another group of songs, and have begun to wonder about how to release them."

Index on Censorship is "Britain’s leading organisation promoting freedom of expression." In his essay, Greenwood explains why the band released their last album direct to their fans, "This desire to use the technology was driven by distrust and frustration with trying to broadcast our music via traditional media, such as radio and television." He adds, "With In Rainbows, we were able to be the first people to digitally release our record, directly to people’s personal computers."

In 2007, the band released their seventh album, In Rainbows, as an internet download for which fans could pay whatever they felt was appropriate. On the merits of the experiment, he writes, "For all the giddy prognostications, the most important reason for the success of In Rainbows was the quality of the music. I am optimistic that if you make good work you can secure the patronage of your fans."  He continues, "Three years later, we have just finished another group of songs, and have begun to wonder about how to release them in a digital landscape that has changed again."

Verve's Salisbury Stands In for Charlatans' Drummer BrookesThe Charlatans have announced through The Charlatans Official Website that The Verve’s Pete Salisbury will act as stand in drummer for the UK tour whilst Jon Brookes recovers from his operation.

The official announcement continues, "Brookes, who collapsed on stage in Philadelphia last week, is preparing for his operation this week, back in the UK. It is not known how long he will be out of action but it is thought that Salisbury will complete the October UK tour at least."

The Charlatans' US tour was postponed, following the collapse of drummer Jon Brookes during a gig at Philadelphia’s Johnny Brenda’s on September 15th.

The announcement that followed stated, "Early into the set Brookes suddenly collapsed and stopped breathing. Fortunately there was a doctor in the audience who administered first aid and got the drummer breathing again before the paramedics arrived minutes later. Brookes was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Philadelphia and during the night was given a CAT scan and has been responding well to treatment. He has now been transferred to a larger hospital in the city for further tests, although his condition is said to be improving and doctors believe there will be no long term effects on his health."

Weezer Smell Success With Hurley PDF Print E-mail

Weezer Smell Success With HurleyAccording to the LA Times, actor Jorge Garcia, who played the character Hurley in popular TV series "Lost," came onstage to perform “Perfect Situation” with Weezer while they were playing a secret show on Tuesday night at the Dunes Inn Hotel in Hollywood as part of Axe's One Night Only music series.

Before the music started, Jorge Garcia, the face of Weezer's latest album cover, took the stage just before 9 pm and introduced the band as "my new best friends." The actor has featured in the world of Weezer since the group chose his picture to grace the cover of Hurley. Videos of Garcia's rendition of "Perfect Situation," from Weezer's 2007 Make Believe album, can be viewed on YouTube.

In August, Guardian.co.uk revealed that the album is not, in fact, named after the fictional character, but named after a multinational clothing brand.

According to Brian Bell, Weezer's guitarist, surfwear company Hurley International "was funding the record at the beginning of the process". "We actually did some sort of advertisement [deal]," he said in an interview at the Mile High festival. "I don't even know how they're tied in so much, although we got some clothes [from them] and we did a photoshoot where we're wearing these clothes, and I think we're selling these clothes in malls." Hurley International, which specialises in skate and surf gear, is owned by Nike.

Stone Temple Pilots suspend tour after outburst PDF Print E-mail

Stone Temple Pilots suspend tour after outburstNEW YORK (Billboard) - Stone Temple Pilots have postponed 12 dates on their tour in the wake of singer Scott Weiland's rambling speech onstage during the trek's Houston stop.

The group has taken a "short break" beginning with the show scheduled for Tuesday in El Paso, according to its announcement, and will return to the road on October 8 in Tampa.

The band did not give a specific reason for the break, but Weiland's outburst on Sunday may have contributed.

According to the Houston Press, STP took the stage about one hour after opener Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's set, after which Weiland offered slurred tangents about his in-ear monitors, past drug use and thoughts on grunge music.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - With everybody from Paul McCartney to Madonna clamoring to get their music on "Glee," at least one act is refusing to license its music to the TV show.

Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill told U.K. music newspaper NME that he's rejected the show's request to use his music, adding that he's never watched the series although "apparently everybody loves it."

Followill also said the band turned down "Ugly Betty."

British rock band Coldplay also turned down "Glee," then changed its mind, apologized and gave the Fox show access to the band's entire catalog.

On the subject of lending the music of Kings of Leon to Hollywood, Followill added: "We had some people call us up wanting to know if we'd allow 'Use Somebody' to appear in the trailer for their next movie, and we turned them down."
